Personal Ponderings

Eternal Reliability

God cannot lie, He does not lie, and He will not lie. Our Lord is the only One Who is eternally reliable! He is the only One Whom we can trust without a shadow of a doubt. Any promise He makes will come to fruition, and any word He speaks will not be lost.

This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to proclaim faith to those God has chosen and to teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives. This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began. And now at just the right time he has revealed this message, which we announce to everyone.

Titus 1:1-3a NLT

In this passage, Paul is basically saying that from the very beginning of time, God promised salvation for His people. There are numerous prophesies throughout the Old Testament pointing to the One Who would come and provide an atonement for the sins of all those who would believe in Him. God’s promise proved true when the Messiah finally arrived, fulfilling all of these prophesies and living a sinless life here on earth. While He was here, He taught and lived in a way that pointed to the truth.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

John 14:6-7 NLT

His teachings and the miraculous events He performed were documented by His apostles and others who followed Him closely (check out Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). In fact, all of Scripture is inspired by God, so we have an entire 66 books that are His Words of truth to us (2 Timothy 3:16-17). God does not lie, so every promise He makes has been and will be fulfilled! Therefore, when we believe in His truth, we can have confidence that we will eternally be with Christ in heaven once our earthly lives have ceased. In the meantime, His truth shows us how to live while we are still here on this earth.

As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:11-13 NLT

Anyone who seeks the Lord will be saved! We can place our trust in Him and never be disappointed, because He will always uphold the truth. He will always fulfill His promises. The Lord is powerful, and He can accomplish anything with His words (Isaiah 55:10-11). He created the existence of the universe and everything in it with His words (Genesis 1). He calmed the seas with His words (Mark 4:35-41). He sent His Son into the world so we could have His Word given to humanity by the very lips of Jesus (John 1:1-5). He has also inspired men through His Holy Spirit to write a whole Book of His Words, and the Spirit is still with us today to guide us and remind us of His truth.

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

John 14:26 NLT

God has given His Word to us so that we may know the truth. Let’s dive into Scripture with the perspective that God is speaking to us and seeking a relationship with us! He wants us to know Him. Let’s pray and ask that His Holy Spirit would open our eyes and minds to understand the truth written in His Word, and also give us the courage to apply it to our daily lives.

Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

Matthew 24:35 NLT
